'Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.' Matthew 5 V16
PSHE
PSHE stands for Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education. This includes Relationships and Health Education which is a statutory part of the primary school curriculum.
Please read our PSHE and RHE policies for further details. We use a curriculum resource called SCARF. This stands for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. This is a whole school approach to PSHE, including Relationships and Health Education.
The Department for Education RHE document opens with these words
'Today’s children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world and living their lives seamlessly on and offline. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. In this environment, children and young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.'
As a school, we want to play our part in preparing children to be emotionally, socially and academically successful during their primary school years and beyond.
At Astley School, we have chosen not to teach the optional subject for primary schools - Sex Education. Our view is that this can be successfully taught within either the Relationships, Health or Science curriculum. As we are not teaching Sex Education there is no right for parents to withdraw their children from lessons.
