Being A Church School
The Church of England has a well established vision for education. As a school we hold to the these values and firmly believe that, Religious Education in a Church school should enable every child to flourish and to live life in all its fullness. (John 10:10). It is an entitlement for all pupils to receive high quality Religious Education that helps educate to for dignity and respect encouraging all to live well together.

Being a Church School is an important part of who we are at Astley. It is the starting point of every aspect of school life, as we work at loving one another, nurturing gifts and being generous and compassionate people.
Our learning, right across the curriculum, is designed to develop every aspect of the child, including the intellectual, emotional, creative, physical and spiritual. R.E. lessons give our children a vital experience of world religions, alongside developing a sound understanding of Christianity, so that each can form their own views about the world and how they connect to it.Daily Collective Worship is an important part of our school day and we enjoy celebrating achievements, sharing learning from our classes, welcoming visitors and reflecting on aspects of the Christian faith.
We visit St. Peter's Church, Astley several times a year for church services, including Harvest, Christmas and Easter.
Following our Church School (SIAMS) inspection in May 2025, the report highlights Astley Church of England Primary School as a nurturing community where pupils and staff flourish through a shared Christian vision of love, respect, courage and joy. The school is deeply inclusive, with strong leadership and governance that prioritise support for all learners, especially those with SEND and vulnerable pupils. Children thrive in a caring environment that celebrates individual strengths, fosters curiosity through enrichment activities, and encourages spiritual growth through daily worship and reflection. Collective worship is pupil-led, inclusive and deeply valued, with strong links to the local church enriching spiritual experiences. Staff wellbeing is central to school life, with a culture of collaboration, professional growth and recognition. Forest School further enhances pupils’ spiritual and emotional wellbeing, helping them connect with nature and appreciate moments of stillness. Astley is more than a school—it is a loving family where everyone is encouraged to “shine their light” and be the best they can be.

Spirituality is the way in which we combine our thoughts and emotions to reflect, respond to, and seek to give meaning and purpose to the experiences that we encounter in life. At Astley we encourage children to begin this journey of exploration and reflection.
As a church school we believe that our role is to educate the whole child and that the spiritual growth of our children is as important as, and indeed is a vital contributor to, their academic development.
Our Spirituality Policy details the ways in which we seek to develop opportunities for spiritual development throughout the school day, the school curriculum and in every child.
