Computing

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

- Matthew 5 V16

Computing

Computing is the study of how digital systems work and how they are designed, programmed and used to solve problems.
It equips pupils with the knowledge and skills to solve problems, design systems and understand the power and limitations of both human and machine intelligence. Through developing computational thinking, pupils are able to conceptualise, understand and apply computer-based technology, preparing them for life in an increasingly digital world.
Our curriculum enables pupils to become digitally literate and active participants in an increasingly digital world. At Astley C.E. Primary School, the Computing National Curriculum is taught through unit plans provided by the Teach Computing Curriculum.
Pupils are taught four key areas: computer networks and systems, programming, data and information, and creating media. These are revisited each year to ensure progression in knowledge and skills
Online safety is a key aspect of our computing curriculum and is embedded throughout our long-term and medium-term planning, ensuring pupils understand how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully.
Astley School is well equipped with touch screens in every learning space, alongside laptops and iPads that are available for pupils to use across the curriculum.
