Religious Education
Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.'
- Matthew 5 V16
Religious Education
Religious Education is the study of what people believe and how these beliefs influence the way they live. At Astley C.E. Primary School, the RE curriculum follows the Worcestershire Agreed Syllabus and reflects the Church of England Statement Entitlement.
It is taught through enquiry-based units that develop pupils’ understanding of Christianity, other principal religions in the UK and non-religious worldviews. Christianity is taught using the Understanding Christianity resource to support deeper understanding of key concepts.
The curriculum is structured around three elements: making sense of beliefs, understanding the impact and making connections. These enable pupils to develop knowledge, reflect on meaning and apply their learning to their own lives.
Learning is enriched through discussion, visits and visitors, including places of worship and opportunities to engage with people of faith.
Through RE, pupils develop respect, understanding and the ability to engage thoughtfully with different beliefs through the lenses of theology, philosophy and the social and human sciences, preparing them for life in a diverse society.
