Starting Reception
We are delighted to welcome you to the Astley family. We look forward to supporting you and your child as they begin their journey with us.
Transition to School
In late May, we invite all new Reception families to a welcome evening, where we share key information and provide welcome packs.
During June and July, children attend settling-in sessions to become familiar with the school environment. Home visits are also offered for children who do not currently attend our Nursery.
First Day Information
Drop-off: 8:40–8:50am
Collection: 3:20pm
Children are dropped off and collected from the Ash Class doors.
What to Bring
- Named water bottle
- Waterproof coat
- Trainers (outdoor shoes)
- Book bag (named, with keyring if possible)
Food
- Free milk until age 5
- Free fruit until end of KS1
- School meals or packed lunch (book via Arbor)
PE & Outdoor Learning
- PE twice weekly (kit kept in school)
- Weekly Forest School
- Outdoor learning (Fridays)
Children should have:
- Wellies
- Waterproofs / puddle suit
Curriculum
Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, learning through a balance of adult-led teaching and play-based provision.
We follow the Read Write Inc phonics programme.
